Recently measured low pressure rate constants of the unimolecular dissociation of CH4 in the bath gas Ar are evaluated in terms of the theory of unimolecular reactions. The data analysis allows to conclude on the temperature dependence of the average energy [DELTA E] transferred per collision. Over the temperature range 1000 - 1500 K a value of [DELTA E] almost-equal-to (50 +/- 20) cm-1 was obtained which practically does not depend on the temperature ([DELTA E] is-proportional-to T0 +/- 0.3). This result is compared with other information on [DELTA E].
