摘要
A detailed study is made of cleaning nickel surfaces by oxygen reaction above 700C and by argon bombardment, using Auger electron spectroscopy to monitor surface conditions. Oxygen is first used to remove surface carbon impurities and then either oxygen or argon bombardment is effective in removing sulphur and chlorine from the surface. Hydrogen reduction was not particularly successful in removing various oxides from the surface.
