The crystal structures of compounds in the ternary system Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-La(Mg2/3Nb1/3)O3-PbTiO3 were investigated by X-ray diffraction. The system is composed of three crystal phases of perovskite structure at room temperature: cubic, tetragonal, and rhombohedral. Moreover, the cubic phase can be separated into three different structures: a disordered structure, the A(B'1/2B"1/2)O3-type ordered structure, and one with a complex cubic structure. The structure ordering is enhanced by the incorporation of La but suppressed by the addition of Ti. The morphotropic phase boundaries in the ternary system were thus determined.
