INTENSITY OF SURFACE-PLASMON POLARITON ENERGY EMITTED INTO THE AIR SIDE IN AN AIR AG-FILM PRISM CONFIGURATION

摘要
For an air/Ag-film(42.0 nm)/prism geometry, we have measured the intensity of the surface-plasmon polariton energy emitted through surface roughness into the air side and then simultaneously evaluated the surface-roughness parameters, i.e., the transverse correlation length and the surface corrugation depth for the air/Ag-film interface. The efficiency of conversion of the surface-plasmon polariton energy in our Ag film into light at the air/Ag-film interface has been experimentally determined to be 2.0%, while the efficiency estimated from light-scattering theory with use of and shows 1.9%. These values are considerably smaller than those evaluated by various techniques, including the photoacoustic method. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
