摘要
Nongray greenhouse calculations are performed with CO2, H2O, and N2 as sources of the infrared opacity. Solar-energy deposition within the various atmospheric layers and at the ground is explicitly calculated. The pressure-induced transitions of N2 are found to be an unimportant source of opacity for the models considered. The atmospheric region between the bottom of the clouds and the surface exhibits an adiabetic profile, and about 0.5% of water vapor is required to achieve the desired greenhouse effect. Both these results are compatible with the Mariner 5 and Venera 4 results. © 1969.
