摘要
Southwest Asia comprises the following: (a) Two major orogenic belts, a northern belt derived from the Paleo-Tethys and a southern belt derived from the Neo-Tethys, (b) minor orogenic belts derived from Neo-Tethyan marginal basins, (c) continental blocks that originated from Gondwana by splitting and stripping and subsequently drifted and collided with continental Asia in its process of construction, and (d) residual oceanic basins which are assumed as being not yet closed Neo-Tethyan marginal basins. The entire region appears as the product of Tethyan evolution.
