Soliton frequency-guiding by UV-written fiber Fabry-Perot filter in a 2x5 Gb/s wavelength-division multiplexing transmission over transoceanic distances
We report the first experimental demonstration of frequency-guiding of soliton pulses by a UV-written photosensitive fiber filter in a multichannel system. Error free transmission at 2 x 5 Gb/s (bit error rate <10(-9)) was obtained over transoceanic distances by propagation in a recirculating loop, Numerical results confirm the reduction of the temporal jitter and are found to be in agreement with the experimental results, We obtained similar transmissions with a bulk type Fabry-Perot filter. Due to the fiber implementation and potential low insertion loss, the UV-written fiber filter can advantageously replace bulk components.
