INFRARED AND RAMAN SPECTRA OF DITHIOACETIC ACID METHYL ESTER AND DIMETHYLTRITHIOCARBONATE

ir- and Raman spectra were recorded for CH3CS2CH3, (CH3)2CS3 and (CD3)2CS3. A frequency assignment is proposed, whereby the possibility of coexistence of 2 respectively 3 conformers of these compounds is taken into consideration. CH3CS2CH3 probably exists as s-cis conformer. Studies on the solvent-dependence of the ir-spectra, as well as on the solid-phase spectra and the dipole moments of (CH3)2CS3 and (CD3CS3, prove that two rotational isomers exist at room temperature. The s-cis, s-cis conformer is the more stable. Regarding v(C(sp2)-S) it must be assumed, that this frequency is influenced by relatively strong coupling in a 4-atomic skeleton of CS3 or CS2C groups. © 1969.
