摘要
New optical absorption measurements near the absorption edge of dense supercritical mercury vapor are presented. An attempt is made to explain the shape of the edge on the basis of the model of the band-state densities in disordered semiconductors suggested by Mott and others. It is shown that the shape of the edge can be explained with the assumption that it arises from electronic transitions between localized states in the band edge tails, the density of which is assumed to be a Gaussian function of the energy.
