SCLERODERMA WITH DIVERTICULOSIS AND COLONIC OBSTRUCTION

Two cases in which scleroderma with giant diverticula of the colon produced the signs and symptoms of obstruction have been presented; in the first case there were findings of scleroderma for ten years and in the second for nine years. 2. 2. Scleroderma is basically a generalized disease and surgical intervention is indicated only when there is localized disease producing irreversible symptoms. 3. 3. Contrary to results in previous reports, both patients tolerated resection of the descending colon well, their wounds healed satisfactorily, and symptoms were relieved. Follow-up study of two years has demonstrated that remarkable palliation has been obtained. © 1969.
