NOISE-ANALYSIS OF SEMICONDUCTOR-LASERS WITHIN THE COHERENCE COLLAPSE REGIME

摘要
It is well known from experiments and numerical simulations that the noise of semiconductor lasers increases dramatically with increasing optical feedback from a distant mirror. We present a theoretical analysis of the laser noise with strong distant feedback yielding a good agreement with numerical simulations. With the analytical model, the relative intensity noise (RIN) and the optical spectra are easily obtained. It is also found that the RIN never exceeds certain limits, regardless of the considered amount of optical feedback.
