摘要
Four hundred and thirty consecutive cases of enucleation in which the Iowa implant was used are reported. The enucleations were done over a 10-year period with a minimum follow-up period of 24 months. Well over half the cases have been followed beyond six years. Fourteen implants (3.37%) extruded. Postoperative complications were minimal. Contraindications to the use of this implant are marked nystagmus and inadequate Tenon's fascia and conjunctiva to cover the implant properly and close the wound. The Iowa implant is felt to be the implant of choice in all other enucleations, because of its advantages over the usual buried and quasi-integrated implants, particularly as to ease of prosthesis-fitting and the excellent cosmetic results. © 1969.
