摘要
In the cylindrical field around a counting wire of a proportional counter the average kinetic energy of avalanche electrons is increasing, when the avalanche is moving towards the wire. Usual methods for the calculation of the gas amplification neglect this energy transfer from the electrical field to the avalanche. In this paper a calculation of the gas amplification factor is presented, which includes appropriate corrections for this energy drain. As a consequence, substancial variations of the gas amplification factor are found for low pressure proportional counters. © 1978.
