Dipole moments and polarizabilities in excited singlet states and the generalized Hellmann-Feynman theorem

摘要
A simple method for calculating dipole moments and polarizabilities in low lying excited singlet states of conjugated systems is considered. For simplicity, only singly-excited configurations are used to approximate the excited states. These wavefunctions. however, do not fulfil the generalized Hellmann-Feynman theorem. Nevertheless. it is shown that the dipole moments so obtained agree very well with the measured values. So it may be hoped that the corresponding values of the polarizabilities are reasonable, too.
