摘要
The influence of low concentrations of isobutyric acid in methacrylic acid crystals on the radical concentrations and conformations observed during irradiation with ultra-violet light at temperatures below -20°C has been studied. The additive, which is not chemically active, increases the density of sites in which there is adequate molecular mobility for reaction, and also changes the distribution of mobility in these sites. As a result, radical formation and relaxation occur more readily in the presence of the additive. At somewhat higher temperatures (-14°C), higher rates of polymerization, and higher molecular weights, are obtained in the presence of isobutyric acid. © 1968.
