摘要
A new method is described for measuring the mass of sulfur in single aerosol particles using x-ray micro analysis with a scanning electron microscope. Using this method the mass of sulfur in particles larger than 0.4-mu-m dia., and having at least 10(-13) g of sulfur can be determined. Quantitative estimation of sulfur in non-homogeneous airborne particles, be they dry or wet, can also be obtained. Calibration curves have been obtained, by producing particles of known composition and size. The method has been tested with good results during a field experiment on top of Mt. Meron, Israel, where measurements were conducted below and within clouds.
