BIOMOLECULAR TRACING THROUGH ACCELERATOR MASS-SPECTROMETRY

Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) has been developed through the past decade into a sensitive tool for the detection of radio-isotopes, primarily for isotope tracing and chronometry in the earth sciences and archaeology. In the past few years, initial experiments have demonstrated the usefulness of this technique for detection of C-14, Al-26, and Ca-41 in biomolecular tracing. We review the advantages of using AMS detection of radio-isotopes in biomedical research.
