Preparation and magnetic properties of Pb2Sr2Y1-xCaxCu3O8+delta

Polycrystalline Pb2Sr2Y1-xCaxCu3O8+delta (PSYCCO) samples have been prepared without precursor (x=0.3-0.6). The samples exhibit a metallic normal-state conductivity, and the highest T-c(R=0) achieved is 70K. Regarding anisotropy, SQUID-magnetometry demonstrates the intermediate position of PSYCCO between YBCO and Bi-2223. The critical current density (J(c) = 10(5) Acm(-2) at 50K for H=1kOe) shows for 0.2 < T/T-c < 0.7 a flatter temperature dependence compared to polycrystalline Bi-2223. In fields of H=10kOe, the irreversibility line (T-irr/T-c = 0.6) is shifted to higher temperatures compared to Bi-2212 (T-irr/T-c = 0.45).
