MAGNETIC-RESONANCE STUDY OF THE MN(II)-POLY(ACRYLIC ACID) INTERACTION

1H nuclear magnetic relaxation data over a frequency range of 1.9-60 MHz and Mn(II) X-band EPR spectra of aqueous poly(acrylic acid) solutions, containing Mn(II), are used for an analysis of the metal ion-polyion interaction. The EPR spectra indicate that the Mn(II) ions remain fully hydrated on interacting with the polyacid, whereas a description in terms of a free and an associated phase for the metal ions is needed to reproduce the observed nuclear relaxation rates. In the associated phase the metal ion-polyion interaction changes the values of the parameters characterizing the dynamical behavior of the Mn(H2O)62+ complex. © 1979.
