Transport parameters characterizing a commercial hemodialysis membrane (AN69, Hospal), with and without pretreatment with an adsorbed albumin layer, were determined as a function of the external sodium chloride equilibrium concentration. Measurements included membrane potential, streaming potential, and electroosmosis data. Transference numbers of cations and water were directly calculated from these data and were characteristic of high permselectivity at low ionic strength. Model-dependent parameters of the charged membrane, such as zeta potential and fixed charge density, were also calculated.
