CORRELATION BETWEEN DIELECTRIC-PROPERTIES AND NANOSTRUCTURE IN A PB(IN1/2NB1/2)O3 CERAMIC

Dielectric measurements performed on a Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3 ceramic revealed behaviour strongly dependent on both the frequency and temperature. A high frequency (HF) relaxation is observed over the entire temperature range (200-450 K) at frequencies close to 10(8) Hz. There is a minimum of the relaxation frequency f(r)(HF) close to T(m), the temperature of the maximum of epsilon(r)'. A second relaxation occurs below T(m), at lower frequency, with f(r)(LF) values decreasing on cooling. In addition, very small ordered nanoregions were observed by transmission electron microscopy. This is in agreement with a high degree of disorder arising probably from the ''fast firing'' process used for ceramic preparation. The dielectric response was correlated with the nanostructure.
