KINETIC-ENERGY DISTRIBUTIONS OF PARTICLES DESORBED FROM SOLID N2, O2, AND NO BY ELECTRON-IMPACT

摘要
The distributions of the kinetic energy of neutral particles desorbed by electron impact from solid O2, N2, and NO have been measured. All desorbing species show translational energy spectra with only one maximum, located between 29 and 200 meV. For all samples, the amounts of desorbing atoms with large kinetic energies are small. The abundance of fast atoms is in fact so low that erosion via sputtering by fast fragments from dissociating molecules as dominating mechanism for electronically stimulated desorption is unlikely for these solids.
