摘要
Quantitative structure determination of clean metal surfaces by LEED during the last three decades is reviewed. First, the development of experimental techniques necessary for the fast and reliable measurement of electron diffraction intensities is described. Emphasis is on the structure of geometrically reconstructed clean metals as well as on the monitoring of the corresponding structural phase transitions and their kinetics. The appearance of chemical reconstruction (segregation) in binary alloy surfaces is described as well.
