An A15 Nb3(Al0.8, Ge0.2) tape has been prepared by a reaction between sigma-phase Nb2(Al, Ge) and Nb powders. Fabrication of the tape using a Nb sheath was quite successful. The superconducting properties and structure of the newly prepared Nb3(Al, Ge) tape were studied. Finer sigma-phase and Nb starting powders yield a pronounced improvement in J(c) at magnetic fields from 10 to 23 T. A J(c) of > 2.5 X 10(4) A cm-2 has been obtained at 21.5 T and 4.2 K. The addition of MgO powder is effective for enhancing J(c) and reducing the peak effect.
