摘要
Recent advances in molecular biology of the renin-angiotensin system have expanded our understanding of the basic biochemistry and physiology of this important hormonal system. The genetic and protein sequences are available for each of its components. Current research is directed toward examining the regulation of expression and activity of these molecules as well as the existence and functionality of local renin-angiotensin systems. The possible association of genetic polymorphisms in any one component with vascular and cardiac disease also is under investigation. Ultimately, such studies may provide the basis for new therapeutic strategies.
