Growth conditions in the KCl-flux method were refined to reduce defects in the platelike crystals of Bi2SrCaCu2O8+y. Crystals were grown from high-temperature solutions by slow-cooling and subsequent isothermal processes in a horizontal temperature gradient. As a result, we succeeded in excluding defects that had been observed as etch pits in our previous study.
