ADOLESCENT VERSIONS OF THE HOME AND SCHOOL SITUATIONS QUESTIONNAIRES - INITIAL PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES

Modified the Home Situations Questionnaire (HSQ) and School Situations Questionnaire (SSQ), both measures of situationally specific behavior problems in children, for use with adolescents. Three forms were developed: Adolescent HSQ-parent report (AHSQ-pr), Adolescent HSQ-self-report (AHSQ-sr), and Adolescent SSQ-self-report (ASSQ-sr). Adolescents between the ages of 11 and 17 years sewed as subjects in a standardization (n = 943) and test-retest sample (n = 81). Results indicated satisfactory levels of internal consistency and rest-retest reliability (2-week interval) for the AHSQ and ASSQ. Principal factor analyses revealed a theoretically consistent 2-factor structure for the ASSQ-sr only. Significant sex, age, and race differences were obtained for the AHSQ scores and significant age differences were obtained for the ASSQ scores. Standardization data were provided based on these findings. Initial convergent and divergent validity for the AHSQ and ASSQ was established by correlations with subscale scores on the Achenbach Youth Self-Report and Child Behavior Checklist.
