(Chemical Equation Presented) Three's company: Functionalized spirocyclic quinoline derivatives are easily synthesized in a one-pot three-component coupling process involving the reaction of alkynol, aldehyde, and aniline derivatives (see scheme). The process is carried out in the presence of catalytic amounts of a platinum(II) complex and a protic acid. © 2008 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
