Quantum transport and magneto-optics in a magnetic two-dimensional electron gas

A new class of magnetic heterostructures is studied wherein a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) is strongly exchange coupled to a systematic distribution of local moments. From the longitudinal magnetoresistance we extract the sheet concentration, single particle scattering time, and carrier effective mass. Magnetophotoluminescence measurements yield an estimate of the spin splitting of the 2DEG states, implying a high degree of spin polarization in modest magnetic fields at cryogenic temperatures.
