摘要
Alzheimer's disease has a long early phase in which limited pathological changes accumulate without apparent functional consequences. Once pathology exceeds a certain threshold, clinical features arise, but this threshold seems to differ from patient to patient, reflecting individual differences in 'brain reserve'. This review discusses the concept and possible determinants of brain reserve, and their implications for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
