Misinterpretations of the electro-catalysis observed at C60 modified glassy carbon electrodes for the determination of Atenolol

摘要
The reported electro-catalytic determination of the p-blocker atenolol at C-60 modified carbon electrodes has been explored. We present compelling evidence that false claims of 'electro-catalysis' have been conferred on C-60 modified carbon electrodes with the reality that the electrochemical oxidation of atenolol is actually voltammetrically visible at a bare glassy carbon electrode which is in direct contrast to that originally reported. Additionally the introduction of C-60 on the electrode surface does not confer any electrocatalysis but rather blocks the electrode surface. This work provides yet another example to the contrary that C-60 modified electrodes provide electro-catalysis for target analytes. (C) 2008 Published by Elsevier B.V.
