The association of water in ionic liquids:: A reliable measure of polarity

摘要
Water molecules can be used as a sensitive probe for measuring the polarity of ionic liquids (ILs). A combination of FTIR spectroscopy and DFT calculations was used to determine the molecular state of water in ILs. The picture shows a possible configuration of H2O in 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide (red O, white H, blue N, black C, yellow S, shaded yellow F).
