(Figure Presented) Shaping up: DNA polymerase I can distinguish easily and with high sensitivity between nucleobases that have the same size but differ in shape. The shape, altered through variation in the position of the halogen substituent(s), plays more of a prominent role in base-pairing efficiency and selectivity than other factors. © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
