Pt has much to offer in the realm of C-H activation. The strong Pt-H and Pt-C bonds that can be formed in a C-H activation reaction undoubtedly contribute to the success of Pt. Hydrocarbon activation, the first step in the Shilov cycle, is probably the most intensely explored and best understood of the three steps. The C-H activation step is expected to continue to fascinate chemists for years to come. Examples are presented that C-H activation can occur at electron-rich and electron-poor Pt complexes.
