摘要
Close interactions between experiments and computer simulations of metallic contacts have revealed the central role of mechanical instabilities in the evolution of the electronic conductance of atomic-scale contacts pulled to fracture. At the same time crucial differences in the-rime scales of relaxation processes that occur in experiments and in simulations have been highlighted and have raised fundamental questions about modelling strategies.
