Methyl-beta-(N,N-dialkylamino)-alpha-isocyanoacrylates readily prepared from the reaction between various secondary amines, N-formylimidazole diethylacetal and methyl isocyanoacetate, can be used to increase the diversity of the isonitrile input in multi-component condensation, such as the Passerini reaction.
