Direct microwave-enhanced Sonogashira coupling of several pyrimidinones and uridine with alkynes, PdCl2(PPh3)(2), Et3N and CuI to give the corresponding 5-alkynyl derivatives is described. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
