Abrusoside E, a further sweet-tasting cycloartane glycoside from the leaves of Abrus precatorius

摘要
A novel cycloartane glycoside, designated abrusoside E, has been isolated from the leaves of Abrus precatorius. Its structure was determined as 3 beta-O-[beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl](20S,22S)-3 beta,22-dihydroxy-9, 19-cyclolanost-24-en-26,29-dioic acid delta-lactone based upon spectroscopic methods carried out on the parent compound and its mono- and dimethyl esters. While abrusoside E was found to be only marginally sweet, the monomethyl ester proved to be more potently sweet-tasting.
