摘要
We report on the development of Telluride glass fibres as a suitable medium for nonlinear optical switching at the telecommunications wavelengths. Nonlinear properties of bulk TeO2 based glasses were measured with non-resonant nonlinearities an order of magnitude greater than that of silica. Nonlinear absorption was found to be negligible. Recently, low loss single mode fibres have been drawn from the TeO2 glass with losses approaching 1dBm(-1). A dual-channel picosecond laser system has been developed in order to demonstrate nonlinear optical Kerr switching in the fibres providing pulse widths of 20ps at repetition rates up to 2 GHz.
