摘要
The chemisorption of trans-2-butene on Pd(110) has been investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) study. Atomically resolved STM images show that the trans-2-butene appears as a dumbbell-shaped protrusion and the C=C bond is at the on-top site of the substrate atom. With increasing the coverage of trans-2-butene, a short-range (3 x 1)-1D ordered structure is formed at 0.1 ML and a c(4 x 2) structure is dominantly formed at saturation coverage. NEXAFS experiments revealed the adsorption structure of trans-2-butene on Pd(I 10), where the direction in which the two methyl groups are connected is parallel to [001] at low coverage and the C=C double bond is parallel to [110] in high coverage regions.
