Synthesis of the first family of platinum(IV) complexes with phosphorus ylide ligands

The reactions of (PPN)[PtCl5(NH2R')] [PPN = Ph2P=N=PPh2; R' = H (1), Me (2)], prepared by treatment of [PtCl4(NH2R')(Me2SO)] with [PPN]Cl, with 1 equiv of the carbonyl-stabilized phosphorus ylides Ph3P=CHC(O)R (R = OMe, OEt, Me) lead to the substitution of one chloride to afford the first Pt(IV) complexes containing phosphorus ylides, cis-[PtCl4(NH2R'){CH(PPh3)CO)R}] [R = OMe, R' = H (4), Me (5); R = OEt, R' = H (6), Me (7); R = Me, R' = H (8), Me (9)]. Their electrochemical behavior was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential electrolysis, and the crystal structure of complex 4 was determined by X-ray diffraction studies.
