A reproducible wet chemical method using a weak acidic SnCl2 solution as precursor for the filling of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) in high yield with SnO2 nanoparticles was discussed. It was found that after the filling was finished, the fine SnO2 nanoparticles filled the entire internal cavity and coated the outer surface of MWNT. It was observed that after annealed in a stream of argon, particles filled the internal cavity grew larger and yielded a discontinous filling. Analysis shows that using the method, different amount of SnO2 nanocrystals filled MWNTs can be obtained by changing the concentration of precursor.
