A spark of attraction: Ellipsoidal Pr6O11 particles on indium tin oxide (ITO) modified with single-stranded oliogonucleotides act as an unlabeled DNA probe. Upon recognition of complementary bases in solution, an impedance change (capacitance change) is detected. An equivalent impedance change is not obtained upon the addition of an oligonucleotide with slightly mismatched bases. (Chemical Equation Presented). © 2007 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
