The prevention of access failure - Pressure monitoring

Monitoring of vascular accesses has two principal objectives: maintenance of adequate access blood flow to prevent underdialysis, and detection of stenoses prior to thrombosis. Methods of monitoring vascular access are discussed, focusing on the hemodynamic manifestations. Dynamic and static pressure measurements are used for monitoring access in grafts and native fistula. However, both measurements are more useful for monitoring grafts due to the fundamental differences in the dissipation of the pressure gradient.
