STRUCTURAL STUDY OF ACTIVATED NITROGEN ADSORBED UPON (110), (530) AND ASSOCIATED (HKO) COPPER FACES

摘要
The structural evolution of all the (hk0) faces between Cu(110) and Cu(530) under activated nitrogen adsorption is investigated by LEED and AES. For low inclined faces, step bunching and incomplete faceting into (100) and (110) appear. For more inclined faces, the behaviour is quite unusual: at low coverages, the formation of a nitrogen superstructure is inhibited and, at higher coverage, a sudden faceting appears with a high rate of (100) facets. Such phenomena will be discussed and connected to strong terrace reconstruction models.
