EXTRACELLULAR AMYLASE SYNTHESIS BY STREPTOMYCES-LIMOSUS

摘要
A strain of Streptomyces limosus was superior to 97 strains of various Streptomcyes species for the hydrolysis of starch granules. Extracellular amylase activity was induced by maltose, malt extract or starch but not by lactose, sucrose or D-xylose. The enzyme attacked starch endo-actively producing mainly maltose. It was insensitive to EDTA and 4-chloromercuribenzoate. The enzyme was unstable above 45.degree. C but at 25.degree. C attacked raw starch granules more efficiently than the .alpha.-amylase (1,4-.alpha.-D-glucan glucanohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.1) from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens.
