EFFECT OF ABSORPTION PERTURBATION ON THE REFLECTIVITY OF A QUARTER-WAVE DISTRIBUTED-BRAGG-REFLECTOR

Reported is a mathematical analysis and derivation of a formula for the change of reflectivity of a quarter-wave distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) owing to weak absorption in the mirror layers. From the analysis, the individual contribution of each absorptive mirror layer of a perturbed DBR to the reduction of its reflectivity can be determined. In the limit of small loss, the analytical expression provides a very good estimate of change in reflectivity with absorption perturbation present in any single component layer or an arbitrary combination of component layers of the DBR.
