THERMAL-DEGRADATION OF DIPHENYL DISULFIDE AND A BLEND OF DIPHENYL DISULFIDE WITH POLY(METHYL METHACRYLATE)

摘要
The thermal degradation of poly(methyl methacrylate) in the presence of diphenyl disulfide has been studied and a mechanistic interpretation of the reaction is provided. The major degradation products, methyl isobutyrate, methyl methacrylate, thiophenol, diphenyl sulfide, thioanisole, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, oligomer and char, account for 72.0% of the products. Some of these arise by the degradation of the additive alone while the others are produced by the interaction between poly(methyl methacrylate) and the sulfide.
