OBSERVATION OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE SPIN-FREEZING BEHAVIOR IN CD1-X-YMNXFEYTE

The temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility of single-crystal Cd1-x-yMnxFeyTe (x=0.26,0.30,0.37,0.44,0.58; y0.01) showed that the cusp temperature Tg is higher than that of Cd1-xMnxTe with the same Mn content. This is ascribed to the stronger Mn-Mn interaction, which is caused by a decrease in the lattice constant accompanied with doping of the Fe into Cd1-xMnxTe. We scarcely observed the intrinsic difference between Cd1-x-yMnxFeyTe and Cd1-xMnxTe samples except for Cd0.62Mn0.37Fe0.01Te, which shows quite a peculiar magnetic behavior. The temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility of Cd0.62Mn0.37Fe0.01Te at temperatures above Tg shows a minimum around 100 K and increases as the temperature further increases and the thermal hysteresis still remains up to 340 K. The time-dependent remanent magnetization of Cd0.62Mn0.37Fe0.01Te suggests a spin-glass-like relaxation retained even at T250 K. Such high-temperature spin-freezing behavior can be interpreted in terms of the bound magnetic polaron formation with a carrier localization. © 1995 The American Physical Society.
