摘要
Gold islands deposited on MoS2surface were studied many years ago by transmission electron microscopy connected with the surface defects. The present experiment has been carried out for confirmation of these results by scanning tunneling microscopy with atomic resolution. The samples of MoS2 cleaved surface and gold clusters decorated on MoS2 were investigated at a vacuum pressure of 10Torr —6 by a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) combined with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). As results, a point defect on the MoS2surface, an effect of the surface step on island nucleation, a correlation of atomic structures between a gold thin crystal and the substrate and movement of gold clusters on the MoS2surface during STM observation are demonstrated. Some discussions on these results are presented in reference to the previous reports by transmission electron microscopy. © 1990, American Vacuum Society. All rights reserved.
